Hi,

I am struggling to find the right Mary ? Who married William Hillier in Wilts approx 1780-1799.
I’ve search and there are a lot of them but which one is mine I’ve no idea.
I’ve looked at marriage records and Banns to see if there is any more information on the bride like
Fathers name etc, where she came from but I’m not getting anywhere.
George Hillier b. 1791 was there son and Mary had a daughter in 1799 - baseborn so where William went I’m not sure.
There are so many Marys married to a William Hillier I don’t know which one is mine and I’m really struggling.
I just wondered if anyone had any ideas how I can find the correct Mary.

Is he the George that was baptised in Calne 1792 (born 1791)

I’m not sure sorry. There’s 2/3 George Hilliers all born around July - Dec 1791. His birth entry is Wilcot but apart from that I don’t know. I’m so confused with the limited details on different entries I don’t know which one is the correct one. I don5 know anything about his fathers occupation I know I’ve seen a William who was a Collar maker and a William who was a carpenter but I’ve know idea which is the right one.

Do you have George on census, if so where and when

George is on the 1841 census in Honey Street Woodborough Wilts. He is with his young son William, a Mary Bishop and another man who’s name I can’t recall at the moment. His younger son Thomas was a few doors down with the Carpal family - I think with a nursing mother as George’s wife (Kezia)  died 3 wks after Thomas’s birth.
George died in 1847 aged 57yrs at the Devizes workhouse ( I have his death certificate) the two young boys were left there after his death.
George married Kezia Chandler in 1836 in Woodborough. He was also previously married to an Ann Pearce from Stanton St Bernard in 1824 but sadly she died in 1829. Can’t find any children to Ann. There is another family within the same area with the same names etc so it’s quite confusing and also trying not to confuse the two family members.

The Mary that had baseborn child Sarah was 'single' according to the transcript.  Possibly the Mary Hillier who was baptised at Wilcot 17 Sep 1775 parents John & Mary of West Stowell

I did wonder if William had left or died that’s why Sarah was ‘baseborn’ and Mary was single.

Sorry I don’t know the areas but are Wilcot, Overton and West Stowell near each other or within each other if you know what I mean?

I really want to try and go back further on this family but with the information being so limited I’m really struggling. I’ve been trying for over 3 yrs to find Mary’s surname before marriage and also where she and William were born. It doesn’t help either with there being so many with the same names in the same area.
