Grave

I am wondering if there is a register or something for more recent graves.  My gr grandmother is buried on the Isle of Man, where she had a long and happy marriage to her second husband.  I think its entirely possible that her husband will be buried with his first wife.  Deaths of both were in the 60's.  Now that I am writing this I am wondering if she is buried with her first husband in England?

Any ideas how to find out either way?

Did your gr grandmother leave a will? If so then it's a possibility that she request where to be buried or cremated.

Thanks, I shall investigate that.  Is it a different procedure for Isle of Man for probate etc?

I would not say it is usual for burial wishes to be on a will though you may be lucky.

I think I will try firstly other members of the family see if anyone knows - though if I recall correctly my gr grandfather wanted an unmarked grave.  So if she lies there, then I am none the wiser other than knowing the church graveyard!   

I found a clip from a newspaper that she left some money, it mentioned Rolls Office ?  I have spotted the probate department.

You mention newspaper clip.  Local papers often have announcements of deaths and funeral arrangements - perhaps this might give you at least the cemetery.  I will probably be getting a subscription to the local papers through the imuseum in 2 or 3 weeks time.  If you post details I will check for you.  Alternatively someone else may be visiting the museum sooner and can check for you.

The Isle of Man has a separate jurisdiction from either England/Wales or Scotland.
So there are different databases to look up - not all of which are online.

Isle of Man probate is usually searched at The Registeries - a copy of a will is £2.50.
The Registeries are at the end of my road - so a short walk for me!

Thanks both - after the newspaper hint went back and looked at all the clips I had taken when I short sub.  There it was it!  She was Cremated in Liverpool and there was a memorial service in St George.

So I think they were each buried (or interred) with their first spouses- which makes sense of course.  Both were widowed, as an aside my gr grandmother had two silver weddings!

Some times you need to say things out loud to someone  (or in this day and age - post/email) to clear your thoughts or get an understanding.

A copy of her will be good though - can we arrange this, please.

Can I ask about the house they lived in - if its still there?  I have friends coming over so the could take a picture if they are in town.
