Charles Epping

A family story that has been told is that my 3x grandfather Charles John Epping died from pneumonia. After a flood happened at the Starr Piano Factory in Richmond, Indiana, Charles went in to salvage the pianos. These were his livelyhood since he was a piano mechanic. It was cold and wet, perfect conditions for pneumonia.
I found his death certificate, and it said he died from dementia which he had for 3 years. Charles died on June 6, 1905 at 46 years old.
I was wondering if his line of work could of caused the dementia since he probably was working around chemicals to make the pianos. Also if a flood did happen in Richmond, Indiana in 1904 or 1905.

EPPING -- Mrs. Anna Epping, widow of Charles Epping, died Friday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Clingenpeel, Hotel Maxwell, North E street. The funeral will take place Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Friends may call at any time.
