Nicola - I had already come to the tentative conclusion that HJ was in the artillery. Have a look at the record here

1824 Conscripted into the
Vierde Bataillon Artillerie Nationale Militie (Fourth Battalion, Artillery of the National Militia)
1825 he transferred to the battalion of Voluntary Artillerymen (
Vrijwillige Artilleristen).
1830-31 occasionally involved in engagements during the Belgian Uprising.
1832 he returned to the ANM in January and was promoted to the rank of sergeant on 16 May.
1837 transferred to the
