Sorry all you dear helpers - I need to digest this info. I have been busy today and find the 12 hour difference leaves me behind...
We don't have much info about Henry George which is how he is recorded with the family in 1871 and 1881 and I got so confused with Ancestry putting up George Henry...

it looks like the answers are spot on with Olive but I will consider it and reply. Thanks so much.

Yes it looks as though the children were born after the 1901 census.

Olive Edith Clark mmn Berry, Dec qtr 1901 Eton
Lilian Nellie Clark mmn Berry, Jun qtr 1905 Eton

Yes this is correct

Rosie, this was posted by you weeks ago and I'm just doing some checking and catching up.
I presume this is Olive's death notice?

I'm going back thru the posts : avm where is the birth record from please? I have one that is May qtr but I think that you are correct - Eliza Hirst was his mother but why was he known as Henry George all thru the censuses?
It has been suggested that he might have gone to the Boer war - are there any records for that?
I couldn't find him WW1. I did find a Henry George and Julia on a boat to Bordeaux in 1926 but have no idea if that is my man... oh the puzzles!! Thanks for any help.

There is no May qtr.  The quarters of the year end in March, June, September and December.

The index details are from GRO Online, which includes mother’s maiden name.

It is very common to find that given names were switched around.
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)

Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)
