Cant see saved ancestry.com records anymore
« on: Friday 06 April 18 00:02 BST (UK) »
When my Ancestry.com subscription ran out months ago I was still able to see census records etc that I had found and linked to while a member  (and had paid to have and KEEP that info). But now (after the latest free period) I cant access them anymore !
Has something changed here ?
I understand I cant see NEW records till I pay again
But I should be able to see records I have already paid for in the past.
That's how it used to work
(somehow it marked those records as already paid for, so you could view them again)

According to their Support pages:

After your subscription ends, you won’t be able to do the following:

View most records: You’ll still be able to search the site and see which records match your searches, but unless the records are free, you won’t be able to view record images or transcriptions (including record images or transcriptions already attached to your trees).

What will be available:
Any records or media that you’ve downloaded to your computer will still be available to you after your subscription ends.
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

Thats why I stopped using Ancestry, you pay for the records yet you can't see them unless you continue paying. A way around this is to download them to your computer files as well as saving them to your tree.

Hello

Always download or print anything family history, local history, I wish to keep, or might refer to again. I use those A4 plastic pockets and lever arch folders,

I have A4 bound Notebooks, because I realise that several insignificant notes (with Cat. reference) unexplained at the time, made (re local history / aviation hobby) 20 years ago, has suddenly become a very important piece to a jig-saw in a mystery and fits with another record recently acquired.

Would they still be there if you joined for a month? Don't forget to formally cancel the trial, if you don't wish to continue beyond the month / initial trial period.

General Info

On some old book sites, clicking an icon to enlarge the book, then expanding the page several times before saving, will give you a better resolution (more kb).

Some sites won't let you download on the first click of the download button, but after waiting (if no 'save as' bar appears), repeat it. Follow steps, or if image appears (with no 'save as'), try left click to + image size and right click on image for picture menu.

Or save by, print screen (just looking mine is FN + PRTSC buttons) and paste it, to paint, or picture manager, or Word, or equivalent, trim and then save as ...

Always date and name your image when saving e.g. 1825 Ralph Smith All Saints York (on Windows you can search them from the desktop, left hand corner of screen).

Always good to run your antivirus scan too after, regularly.

Mark

Apparently there was a glitch, and some people like me, with expired subscriptions, were able to still see records that had been attached to their trees. But that is closed off now.
I did download copies of the important ones of course, but didn't bother on some recent (less important) ones
Will download when I next rejoin or when the next free period occurs

PS Big thumbs up to Ancestry for the occasional free access periods they do
