Parents Look Up (Mares)

Hi I am hoping some one can help. I am looking for the Charles Henry Mares I know one of his kids was Frederick Mares born in Charles Devon in 1856. Frederick married married Ann Cater in 1880 in South Molten (Charles was deceased at the time of their marriage)their children were Alice Walter Mabel and John (1891 censor). So apart from knowing his fathers name I can not find out anything else about him, Any help would be appreciated.

This looks like Frederick's birth, registered as Mars. No mother's maiden name given, which does sometime mean the child is illegitimate. Where did you get his father's name from - have you found them on the 1861 census? If the name came from the marriage certificate, you have to bear in mind that if a child was illegitimate they did sometime "invent" a father to go on the marriage certificate.

Frederick & Annie had at least 2 other children - Charles born in 1893 (probably October) & Bessie, born on Christmas Day 1890 - who were baptised in South Molton parish on 23 October 1893.

Looks like a best guess rather than a verifiable baptism record.
Unless he was born in the early hours and they registered the birth that same day.
