I think that the first bit is an invocation or prayer to the Virgin Mary. As in "Erected to the glory of God AND to the memory of ..." that we often see on stained glass windows.

Many Latin inscriptions contain abbreviations; without context, they can be difficult to translate.  For instance, the "obt" in the phrase "vidnec que obt" could stand for: obtemporo, obtero, obtestor, obtenio or obtutus.  I found all these words on a website called latintranslation.school.  My guess is that you are going to have to try and determine what is abbreviated, what word the abbreviation could stand for, and what words make sense together within the context of the transcription.

P.S.  My grandfather used to teach Greek and Latin, but it's a long time ago now.  I think you may have inspired an urge to learn it.

Memor amictiae Maria - roughly "In memory of friends of Mary", or "A memorial to the friends of Mary".

These words were on a copy of Monumental Inscriptions, so some food for thought from your replies.  How I wish they had not used abbreviations !!!!

"aet 69" = age 69. So the person was 69 at time of death in 1853.
There's a prayer to Our Lady which is known as the "Memorare" because it begins "Remember me". It's a plea for Mary's intercession when the soul of the deceased arrives at the place of judgement.
"Memor amictiae Maria Rev W Curteis." might be " Remember for/to the love of Mary, Rev. W. Curteis."
Are you sure it is "amictiae" and not anima(m/ae) which is soul?
"Rev. I. P. Alcrick MA hujus eccl vic" I think it means the monument was erected by Rev. Alcrick, incumbent of this/same church (?).  "hujus" may be a variant spelling of another word; I can't remember alternative spelling.   "eccl" and "vic" are probably abbreviations.
Caveat. This is from memory. I should buy a Latin dictionary.

Thank you so much.  I am doing transcribing for a FHS, they asked me to give the Latin a go, so I am trying to use any resource I can think of!  I dont like to be beaten!!!
