HENDERSON: Baptism - St Luke's Church,Chelsea
« on: Saturday 06 August 05 15:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Would anyone be able to lookup a couple of baptisms for me?  They are for Annie Ellen Henderson who I believe was born in 1851 and Caroline Amelia Henderson born 1845.

I've had no success in finding either birth certificate to enable me to find out their mum's maiden name (would the baptism record show this?).  Their parents were called George Frederick and Emily Henderson (though I'm not sure whether they were married at the time).  They lived a few streets away from St Luke's Church in Chelsea and Annie subsequently married there so I'm hoping that's where they were baptised.

Many thanks,

Elldee   :D

The only one I found was this

Births Mar 1850
Henderson  Annie Elizabeth    Lambeth  4 342

but nothing at all for Caroline.
How certain are you of the middle name - could this be Annie?

Hi Cougar,

I don't think this can be the person I'm after as on her marriage certificate and her son's birth certificate she is named as Annie Ellen/Helen.  Her birth place on at least a couple of census' is named as Chelsea so it would seem unlikely that they would register her in Lambeth don't you think?  I did find her family on the 1851 census in Keppel Street, St Luke's, Chelsea but she's not listed - I don't think she was born at the time.

I have found a marriage record on freebmd in 1852 for a George Frederick Henderson (same name as Annie's father) and on the same register is an Emily Skipper (Emily being Annie's mum's name) which I think could be Annie's parents.  The reason I think this is because one of the witness at Annie's wedding in 1869 was a John Skipper (coincidence?).  Unfortunately this marriage was registered in Wandsworth not Chelsea so if I spend £7 on it and find these people were then living in Wandsworth I still wouldn't have anything more firm to link them to Annie.  Do the LDS have parish registers I could look at that would give Annie's baptism details?

Hello

I would perhaps suggest looking at the LDS site here http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp to find out where the baptism records might be available at an LDS Centre near you (they have them around the world).

Also, searching the online index of birth is an option here http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ which is a paysite.

Have you found her on the 1861 census?  That may give more clues to her birthplace.

Good luck
Jonathan

OK - had assumed you had checked the IGI.
Annie Elizabeth as you so rightly thought is the wrong one - parents William & Jane.
She is not showing on the IGI.  Checked them all with a +/- 5yr. of 1850.
Sorry bout that.  Back to the drawing board.
If you go to the London board you will see a posting about ordering certificates and saving money - might pay to follow that and order the cert. you have found - if wrong one will only cost 3pound instead of the 7.

Thanks both for your advice, it looks like I'll have to try one of those options.

Re the 1861 census - they are not on that as I have found a mention of Caroline Amelia Henderson (Annie's sister) getting married in Malta in 1862 to a sergeant from the same regiment as her father.  This also mentions that she was born in St Luke's, Chelsea so they must be around there somewhere!

I'll just keep on searching.

Hi again
If her sister got married in Malta, and father was present - perhaps the reason you are not finding her is that the whole family were stationed in Malta at the time.
You would perhaps need to get in touch with the Army - was their father something to do with the army?  If so contact the regiment/section he  belonged to - and ask them to do a check of their archives for any information on his areas of service.
Was there a census done in Malta? as in Britain of British subjects abroad perhaps?
just a couple of ideas,

Good afternoon elldee, I am having the same problem as yourself.  Annie Ellen Henderson married Thomas White in 1869 in St Lukes Chelsea.  They were my wife's 2nd great grand parents.  If you have any further information on them please let me know.

Regards

Hi mcos100,

Annie & Thomas were also my 2xgreat grandparents.  Their son Henry (Harry) was my great grandfather. I've managed to find out a bit of info since I made the previous posts, though I still haven't found any baptism records despite having checked the London baptisms.  I do have some info on Thomas's military career (he fought in the Crimean War) and also that of his father-in-law George Henderson amongst other things.

Regards

Elldee
