1851 look up please HAGGER West Ham area

According to my information, Hannah Hagger married John Snewin in the 4th quarter of 1842 in Marylebone. I have her birth as about 1823 in Tottenham, Middx. John was born around 1815 in Hackney, Middx. At some point (early 1850s?) he worked as a warehouseman in Bow, London.

Do you have a source for this marriage of a Hannah HAGGER to John SNEWING 1842 Marylebone?  I only ask as the only Hannah HAGGER marriage I can see in Marylebone 1842 is to a Thomas JACKSON.

Furthermore, do you have any source for John SNEWING being born c1815 Hackney as I have no information on him whatsoever ........ he was not with Hannah in the 1851 census (when she was SNEWING) and she was HAGGER (as were her children) when admitted to the workhouse during the 1850s.

I took my information from a Snewin genealogy document, which has some inaccuracies. I'll see if I can follow up for more details.

On closer inspection I see no record of a marriage of John Snewin and Hannah. Was it possibly a common-law arrangement? If Hannah married Thomas Jackson in 1842, is it possible Jackson died in the 1840s?

Do you have the birth cert. for Harry Snewin (Harry Thomas Snewin b. 3Q 1850)?

John Snewin was christened 22-Oct-1815, St John Hackney, son of Philip and Ann. I have a screen shot of the birth record, and it's available on ancestry.com.

I do believe that he may have been buried Hackney (of Clapton) in 1817.

No, I'm afraid I don't have a birth certificate for Harry born 1850 and do realise that it may be helpful but not within budget these days unfortunately.  Neither have I found baptisms for any of the children ......... Harry, Samuel or Frederick.

I'm not sure that Hannah married at all.  Certainly in later life she was still HAGGER (albeit supposedly a widow according to the census).

Are you primarily interested in the HAGGERs or the SNEWINGs?  Any little snippets would be greatly appreciated.

I must assume my source for the John Snewin/Hagger connection is mistaken.
Sorry about the false alarm.

I do see a burial for John Snewin in St John Hackney for May 1817. His age is given as 19 months, so obviously this is the John Snewin born October 1815.

The Snewins are my ancestors. John's younger brother Henry is my GGG grandfather.

I must say this is quite a mystery. I'll dig around some and let you know if I find anything.

Since at least Henry's father's time, the family name has been spelled Snewin (earlier it shows up as Smewin, Smuen, Snewing, etc.) There are quite a few in the Hackney area.

I have found a little more information but I'm afraid it doesn't solve the mystery.

According to my source, birth certificates for two of Hannah's children ( Harry Thomas Snewin b1850 and Frederick Snewin b1854 ) show Hannah Hagger as mother and John Snewin as father.

According to Fred’s birth cert. J & H  were living at 9 Albert Terrace, Bow.

But I don't see any birth, death, marriage, or census information (1841/1851) for any John Snewin.

I'm tempted to believe it's a made up name for an unwed mother's "husband" .
