Thanks very much to everyone for their input, especially to McGroger for the post bump & photo restoration! I was quite surprised that it was a unanimous decision but am pleased that I won't be left wondering whether it was my 3x great grandparents. A relative has about 9kg worth of photos to go through & scan so I may be back at some stage (sorry).

I agree, 1907 ish.  No hat or headdress makes me think that it could be in New Zealand rather than UK. This could fit with your second theory.
