Help with a word on a register

Hello,
I was wondering whether anyone could help me with a document? It's a register for the Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900. The word I'm unsure of is "vilâge" Below this, most of the entries are "long" or "round"
It's probably really obvious, but my mind has gone a a bit blank
Many thanks
Mark

I am not familiar with the service documents, but it looks like the headings refer to people's appearance. The word seems similar to Visage - might it refer to the shape of the face?

I suggest Visage. Meaning face - in this case the shape of the face.
That f like symbol being archaic and known as a long, medial, or descending s.

Yes the visage would be described as "round" or "long" for example and perhaps would include any distinguishing features. Pre photograph days of course.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies, visage makes perfect sense.
Cheers,
Mark
