Thankyou.

I know the family came from Wigan. I have a possible baptism for Alfred for 1831 at All Saints', which gives date of birth as Dec. 1830.

I also have the marriage to Jane. I'm still working on the children.
So far I have
       John, born & bapt. 1856, d. 1858
       Thomas, born & bapt. 1857
       John b. 1860, bapt. 1867
Alfred, b. & bapt. 1867 (he is listed as 6th child and 5th son so there are two others before
       him)

Then there's Abel.
I din't know there were any children born after him (i.e. 1871), so could you please send details.

Re Abel's marriage, I don't have the actual marriage cert. but I know he was married to Margaret Pilkington on 17/02/1890 at St. William's, Ince. She was bapt. in St. Patrick's R.C. church in Wigan.
I have burial regs. for both Alfred and Jane (both C. of E.)
Ellison/Rogers/Pilkington/Wood(s)Moss/Mawdsley/Keegin (Keegan,Keagan,Keegen)
Orange/Morrisroe/Webster/Hoole/Shaw/Hague/Herbert
Hurt/Turner/Dean

I think you may have misinterpreted, I said I had looked at the 1871 census and that there are baptisms for the other two children listed in 1871 (i.e. listed on the 1871 census with Abel and their parents)

The GRO marriage cert would not have the info I was talking about, the RC parish Registers would be in a different format to the civil registration and it was common to record (in latin) if one of the parties was not Catholic. If you have access to ancestry look at a Liverpool Catholic marriage to see what I mean about the format of RC marriage registers being different to what is standard on a marriage cert/Anglican Register.

http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/media/67374/I.pdf

That page, indicates that the registers after 1817 are still held by the church, so unless the parish priest is willing to check for you there's unfortunately no way to see what was on the record.
