Who was his mum?
«

Hi.
Edward Komber Jacob chr.24th November 1762 in Cranborne Dorset. Family Search shows father only as Edward. Any ideas as to how I can find who was Edwards wife. I cannot find a marriage for Edward (snr) anywhere in the vicinity of Cranborne. The christian name Komber is unusual but I believe it was common practice around that time for a childs second name to be that of his/hers mothers maiden name.
Any help appreciated.
Dud.

Posting in case it helps others
There are 2 female burials in Cranborne around that time
Elizabeth Jacob 30 Apr 1773 - notes O Edward
Mary Jacob 8 Mar 1787
also burial for Edmund 20 Jun 1786
I can only see one other baptism for a sibling of Edward K - Henry 21 Jun 1765.
Some transcripts have Edward K as Edmund Kimber
Edward & Edmund are often interchanged

familysearch have a potential marriage:
Edward JACOB m Sarah KIMBER, 5 Jan 1760 Child-Okeford, Dorset
(Child-Okeford is about 20 miles from Cranborne).
However, I wouldn't take this as definitive until you confirm it with either a reliable transcript or an image of the register page - familysearch have been known to have wrong entries!
Hope this helps
Philip

Baptism for an Elizabeth dtr of Edward in 1773 & 1775 so looks as though the burial is for a daughter

Many thanks all for your help. I had noticed that the name Kimber were two a penny. Could not find Komber, so possibly a error in transcription.
Again may thanks

If your Edward is the one born in 1738, youngest child of Henry and Ann Jacob, his father left a will which is on Ancestry. Gussage and Edmonsham, where the six children were born, are close to Cranborne.
