Hi can anyone tell me how to research an ancestors military history please. I know he was in the British military but don't know where to go online to research records. Thank you

Rather depends on when?
If he was serving after 1920, then service records are still with the MOD.
WW1 Service Records, if they survived a bomb during WW2, are available on Ancestry, FindMyPast, etc.
Boer War records are available online.
