Calkenfoot, Scotland
« on: Monday 18 December 17 16:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find two places: Calkenfoot and Bonese, Bonnies, Boneese, Westerkirk. This 2nd place is spelled 3 different ways on several different Tombstones/Obits so I don't know which spelling is correct.  All related to Thomson family members in Westerkirk, Dumfrieshire (Dumfries and Galloway now).

"Also Agnew Dalgleish, his wife, who died at Calkenfoot, March 21st, 1877, aged 32 years."

Cemetery is: Westerkirk Churchyard, Bentpath, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.  I know Bentpath is just a short distance from Westerkirk Parish Church, in Dumfries and Galloway.

"He died on 13 Feb 1837 in Bonnies, Westerkirk, Dumfries."

"THOMSON, Bridget b: May 8, 1809 in Boneese, Westerkirk, Dumfries. Scotland."

"He died on 11 May 1872 in Bonese, Westerkirk, Dumfries. He was buried in Westerkirk, Dumfries."

Because I can't seem to find a place called Calkenfoot, Scotland I'm thinking it may be the individual name of a farm or croft.  But they make Boneese sound like a town.

Any suggestions for Calkenfoot or Boneese?

Thank you,
Beverly

Thank you Both.

I think it could be Boonies because I see from the map it's not far from Nether Knock and a large portion of the family were in Nether Knock.
