Downing to North America from UK
« on: Friday 30 July 04 06:46 BST (UK) »
William Churley Downing left Devon for North America.
William was born in 1883 in Medway.
Anyone have a departure passenger list at hand.
I know he was in Chicago, Illinois in 1924.

Thanks for any help.

Hoka.

Hoka,
I went to the Ellis Island website in search of your William Downing. There are many William Downings' that came to the USA from England, Ireland etc..  Try this website and see if you find your Downing

Good Luck!

Hoka,
I just looked at another thread of inquiries and see where you helped someone else using Ellis Island. Glad to see you were already aware of that website!

I realize this is an old post but...
there is a William C. Downing, age 40, carpenter, crossing border from Canada to Detroit in 1923.
He was heading to Illinois to his brother Wallace in Chicago.
Further details available if you need them , if this is the right person.

Yes, he did.

The 1901 RG13; Piece: 2163; Folio: 65; Page: 3 Northam, Devon shows Wallace (c1892), altho William isnt there, nor is his Father George.

He was in 1891 RG12; Piece: 1787; Folio 61; Page 11 Northam.
