hi im looking for the parents of peter stewart born abt 1816 tomnaguie married christian stewart 13 jan 1850 on death says father peter mother isobel fraser but i cant find any marriage

Peter Stewart and Christian Stewart were both living at Tomnaguie (Tom na gaoith) when they married and Peter looks as if had taken over the farm only a few years recently as the 1841 census shows no continuation of a Stewart family from 1841 to 1851. Christian Stewart may have been a farm servant as there are no other Stewarts farming Tomnaguie in 1851.

Given the age of Peter in the 1851 census, and assuming that he came from Blair Atholl parish, there are two possible candidates in the 1841 census: Peter aged 20 years (District 10 page 1) and Peter aged 24 years (District 11 page 3). 

The 24 year old Peter is at Raonmore (Runmore) and married Hellen McDonald in Newtonmore, Kingussie, 29 Dec 1844.

The 20 year old Peter (and remember that ages were adjusted in the 1841 census) was a farmer at Riemoraig. The head of the family was Isabella Stewart aged 55 years (presumably his mother).
There is no indication that Peter was married.  This looks a definite possibility.

On the death cert for mothers name does it say Isabel Fraser or Isabel Stewart MS Fraser

If it is the first one this could indicate his parents weren't married

My great grandfather was peter born 1859 died Grangemouth his dad was peter mum Christian  married 1850  I have his death says father peter mum Isobel Fraser but like you say no marriage cert found his information was given by son John who was staying in Glasgow

It says mother Isobel Fraser

This means that Peter was illegitimate and his parents didn't marry So if you try to look for a christening record I would check out Stewart or Fraser also check Peter or Patrick as these names were interchangeable

Registration of Scottish records didn't start until 1855 so anything prior to that will be from the Parish books

His name was Stewart so it has Isobel Stewart Msn Stewart
