Many thanks for the very useful information which has helped me get back to a marriage in 1788 in Amersham between John Hailey and Elizabeth Sophia Sharp.  Would you be able to trace the birth of this John Hailey?

I believe the birth suggested by LisaRobinson87 is not the right one - it all depends on whether 'your man' married a Louisa Emma Workman 11/5/1873 Westminster.   If so, this is your man:

Thomas Hailey bp.6/3/1853 Aylesbury, son of Thomas and Charlotte.

His birth reg'd Mar.1852 Aylesbury - on the same date he was baptised were 2 older siblings i.e. Lizzy (was actually Elizabeth birth reg'd June 1847) and Sophia (birth reg'd Dec.1849).

Checking births of children on GRO Index shows mmn Varney - Thomas Hailey married Charlotte Varney Dec.qtr.1845 Aylesbury.

Had problems trying to find family on 1851 and 1861 census but eventually found them transcribed as 'Harley' in 1851 (Ancestry) Stepney and in 1861 as 'Bailey' in St. Marylebone.

Thomas senior was a shoemaker.

Checking later census the only Thomas Hailey bc.1852 Aylesbury is indeed married to a Louisa - the marriage I mentioned in 1873 clearly shows Thomas' father as Thomas Hailey, Bootmaker.
