Amer family

Hi everyone,
I am very new to this, so if I am asking stupid and wildly general questions, I apologise.
Following a recent death in my family I am distracting myself with trying to trace some parts of the family tree. I have come across the name of my great great grandmother - Sophia Amer. Thinking this was an unusual surname and she would be easy to trace, I have actually come up against a brick wall. I cannot find her birth certificate online or even the year of her birth. All I know is that she married Charles James Ariell Peter and had a child with him in 1860. At that time they were living in Mile End.
Does anyone know anything about Sophia? Siblings, origins, anything would be a help.

The marriage was in Dec 1/4 1843 St Martins.

Family research can eat money if you are not careful, so it is worth checking all the free sites first.  Rootschatters are brilliant at helping with this!
You may need to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate from the General Register Office.  This should give the names and occupations of the fathers - which would enable you to track them on earlier censuses.

then https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp - this is the GRO website - it's free to register and search, but buying a certificate does cost.
Bearing in mind that spelling varied, and that Sophia might have been a middle name not a first name, I think that finding her father's name is the way to start.
