I didn't manage to read all the replies but I did notice a topic I posted on 688937 suggesting that Bereavemnent Services was contacted.

No reply posted so I've just rung them myself.

Their burial records on their computer system links the 11 cemeteries they manage across Cheshire.

They have no specific record for James Slack aged 76 who died 13 Feb 1898 so the inference I make is that he is buried in a churchyard or he is buried in the cemetery but has been incorrectly recorded.

As his wife Margaret was buried in Sutton (churchyard not specified) in 1904 my suggestion would be that he is more likely to be there as well as that is where he died according to previous topics. If not there then very close by. His name might be mistranscribed so looking at the actual register images around the date of death will be necessary.

At that time, 1898, people were usually buried closest to home as they didn't have the money for repatriation or the need to do so. He had most probably spent too many years in Sutton to be sent anywhere else.

I'm not Cheshire focused so I don't know what is searchable online or available from the FHS.

I'm suggesting a very 'big' ask, but if someone in the area or who has area knowledge can do a detailed look-up rather than a cursory glance as the indexes and then let us know specifically what parishes and churchyards has been checked I would be grateful.

Info here about Sutton churchyard,they say their records are not online,but contact them and they will do look ups.I think it very likely that he is buried there ,as he lived and died in Sutton,and his wife is buried there.

Let's hope Chestnut actually reads your post Dawn 

I am still pondering as to why Chestnut can't move on with his/her family history until they find where he's buried. I have loads of my ancestors whom I've had to put burials on the back burner for now.Especially my London ones.

The OP said that his wife was buried in Sutton Churchyard, googling that and reading the website about the village seems to suggest that St James's was the main church at the time.

It may well be a case of writing to each one of them though

I've had a very quick look at one or two of the other threads on this subject as listed by dawnsh, and in one of them Chestnut says that she has a copy of the inquest report on his death.  This may have already been covered, but I wonder whether the local newspapers have been searched, as they might offer a venue for the burial.

Thanks for that Jen, I thought he would be as that's where he lived,died and his wife was buried
