On some topics that I have posted the answer has come back for a birth that on the GRO the mothers maiden name is.
Is this a subscription only site or is it free on the GRO could someone explain how I find it.

It is free until you order a certificate or PDF. You need to create a user name and password to log in then you select search birth index. Then enter the information you know and you can see the results at the bottom of the page .

If you haven't used the site for a while, you will receive an automated verification email from the GRO which you follow up before you can get into the site.

If you don't get the email, check your spam box.
