What is in the second box please?
« on: Thursday 02 November 17 01:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I wonder if anyone can work out what is written in the second box for this birth record (cropped from a certificate from the GRO). First is the date, then possibly a time (might be a twin?), and last the address.

I can see the top line says 'August 31st' but the rest of that box is a complete mystery. The writing in the other boxes is quite clear and easy to read in comparison.
If needed I can post the other half of the image.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted
regards
Hilary

It's a birth cert. from 1837 registered in St Luke, London.
The Mother's address is clearer in the second half of the cert.

I think the second line might say
August 31st
'1/2?' past 6 o'clock
Mer??

36 Raliere? Street  (comparing the R with the R(obert) in the first snip.

There was often a time given on birth certificates.  :-\

If it's a hospital then probably St Bartholomew's Hospital.

Hi again all,
I do have the 1841 Census record, which matches this birth.

I think the '(something) past 6 O'clock' looks right and maybe it is 'morn'g'. Not capitalized because the capital 'M' looks different elsewhere.

Great replies everyone, thanks so much.
