Catherine Connolly born Manchester 1877 father William connolly shoe maker mother ? Only got 1881 census nothing before. Richard Connolly grandfather shoe maker. Grandmother Julia father William widower Catherine age 4 . I want to find out who Catherine's mother was any help would be great thanks

The GRO website gives us four immediate possibilities for her birth with 1877 +/- 2 years-

1875 - mmn KEARNS
1876 - mmn DALEY
1876 - mmn HERON
1878 - mmn HOOLEY

Not immediately seeing an obvious marriage.

I also looked at deaths 1879 +/- 2 years for Manchester, looking for a woman of the right age but I can only see infants and people over 50...

The 1881 census shows Catherine as a granddaughter of Richard "Conolly", the head of household.  It doesn't tell you which of Richard's offspring was Catherine's parent - it may or may not have been the widowed William.

There is a Catholic baptism for the 1878 one, 28 July 1878 at St Joseph, Ancoats (born 16 July).

Daughter of Patrick Connolly and Catherine nee Hooley.  Witnesses: Charles McCann, Bridget Sheridan.

It's annotated to say that she married John Keenan at St Patrick's Church on 1 August 1917.

Good find! LancashireBMD confirms they did marry each other (Manchester Reg Office or registrar attended, so consistent with a civil or Catholic ceremony).

Not convinced they are her parents though.

My original four birth possibilities were without spelling variations... now looking up some more.

Lancashire BMD has a death for an Ellen CONLEY aged 36 in Wigan (1879) which might be worth consideration.
