Grandmother Nellie Long Eaton
« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 08:47 GMT (UK) »
Could you please date and restore this photograph? I believe it's my grandmother who was born in Long Eaton in 1900. However I have a sneaking suspicion it may be my great Aunt who was born in Staffordshire in 1891, but working as a young woman in Castle Donnington.
Your help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Colin

The actual image is quite small, could you re-scan it please at 600dpi ? When you upload the new scan you will have to rename the file.

I am not very good at dating photos, but the style of this photo is very similar to one my mother had taken in about 1918 -1920. I am sure you will get a better dating than that though. I have tidied it up for you

Better it was with high resolution 300 DPI

Thanks for the replies.
I've uploaded a new scan of the photograph at 600dpi. Hope this helps.

Much easier to work on!  Thank you!     ;D

I am guessing late 1920-1930s.  She's a very nice looking young woman.    :)   Think I would go with your grandmother on those dates.  (Hard to tell witout more clothing showing)

Suggest you add 'dating ' to the title in your original post to invite the good dating people in.

This is the difference the better scan makes for the restorers.

This photo wasn't too badly damaged but you can see how much harder on the eyes the low scan makes it.  You can get in closer and still see what you are doing.   (300 dpi is usually enough)

Cheers,  Wiggy
