Worth on this occasion having a look at public trees on ancestry for ideas as birth cert and death cert have been attached. They would suggest that John was actually born illegitimate (as John Maccoll) and that Sarah did not actually marry Archibald. There would also appear to be a record of his birth on familysearch - 4 July 1867 Aharacle, Argyll - mother Sarah Maccoll.

Millmoor seems to be spot on with the deduction that John's birth name was McColl

1874 marriage in Western Ardamurchan for Sarah McColl to John Henderson.
The only last name on the index for Sarah is McColl.
Taggart is not listed.

John Taggart  and  wife Mary are in Maryhill at 1901 ( Seaman) and aboard the SS Findhorn in Bristol at 1911 ( Able Seaman).

 Taggg needs to obtain the birth cert for John McColl to see if there is any further info.

I see where you are coming from with Archibald Taggart in Campbeltown
However, I have just looked at a map for Ardnamurchan/Acharacle  and Campbeltown is almost 150 miles south of this area.
