Boyds Inhabitants of London
« on: Thursday 28 September 17 16:04 BST (UK) »
I hope this is OK to ask.
Could someone who has access to Boyds Inhabitants of London lookup any information on the following, please:
Anthony Smith D.O.B approximately 1580 married to Elizabeth Woodward D.O.B. 15/10/1583 at St Dionysis Backchurch London and married to Anthony Smith 16/2/1612 at St Giles Cripplegate London.
I am trying to prove that this Elizabeth, is the same one whose parents were John Woodward & Catherine Bressey (or Braci).  I have full access to Ancestry but these records are not on there.
Any information, however small, would be very much appreiated.
Geoff.

Boyd’s page for this Woodward family has Elizabeth born 1583, with 2 suggested marriages for her, both queried:
(1) George Cater, 1602
(2) Thomas Style, no date.
There is no mention on the page of Anthony Smith.

The parish registers show that an Elizabeth Woodward married George Cater at St Dionis Backchurch on 15 June 1602.

Also, an Elizabeth Cater married Thomas Styles on 30 Oct 1604 at St Leonard Shoreditch (no mention of her marital status).

Boyd also cites a PCC will of 1601 for Elizabeth’s father John Woodward, citizen and ironmonger, who died 13 Nov 1601, buried at St Dionis Backchurch. This will can be seen on Ancestry.

Thank you very much for this.  It rather confirms what I have keep finding but doesn't explain a marriage to Anthony Smith which definitely took place in London in 1612!

I'll keep searching.

Thanks again

According to the parish register, the marriage at St Giles Cripplegate was on 16 Feb 1612/13. So presumably this is a different Elizabeth Woodward.
