Alice Davidson - Death
« on: Wednesday 27 September 17 12:43 BST (UK) »
Hello there.
I wonder if i can get some help. I am looking for the death, date and location of an Alice Davidson.

This is what i know so far. She was born Alice Madden in Plymouth 1866. Married George Stenhouse Davidson in London in 1893. George Stenhouse Davidson owned George Davidson Fine Art Dealer 123 Sauchiehall Street. Think I have the right death for him as 1920.  They had 2 children George Wilson Davidson who was killed in WW1 age20 in 1917 and a daughter Dorothy Earle Davidson who married a Doctor Hugo Kay in Motherwell
Any help with the death of Alice would be appreciated

Have you got a copy of George Stenhouse Davidson's death certificate for 1920? Or a copy of the marriage certificate for daughter Dorothy? Both of these would tell you if she was still alive or deceased.

You can obtain these at  scotlandspeople  website for a minimal cost.

Only death I can see in the SP index that would fit her age is one for 1937 in Meigle, Perthshire.

Hope this helps.

Daughter Dorothy Earle Davidson married Hugo Kay, only son of Dr Adam Kay of Motherwell  on 24 Sep 1924 at Hillhead Parish Church,  Glasgow.

The announcement in The Motherwell Times dated 26 Sep confirms that she was the daughter of late George S Davidson and grand daughter of the late George Davidson but, her mother is not mentioned.

Have you checked the 1911 census? I think I can see entries for Dorothy E Davidson 16 and George Wilson Davidson 13 with the same references in St Nicholas Aberdeen for that year. Cannot see entries for father or mother there with the same references.

Finding George Snr would help to let you check his marital status in 1911 in order to narrow down the window for Alice's death.

Again, no reference to mother on son George's entry here www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=16034913

Mother Alice must have been deceased by now?

On his death announcement in 1920 it states that George S Davidson Art Dealer, was of Glasgow and Blackpool.

His DC should confirm if he was still married, widowed or divorced
His son did not serve in a Scottish Regiment. He was in a West Yorkshire Regiment.

NB: an article relating to the Will of George S Davidson states he left a legacy of £1000 to the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.
This was to fund a surgical bed, named in honour of his son.

Farlington, are you aware that Scottish death certificates name both parents of the deceased, including the mother's maiden surname? That 1937 death certificate should make all clear. You can view it at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
