1851 Ashton Under Lyne James Mellor

It is a long while since I posted about the Mellors. I am not sure I can help with 55 Alma Road.

The 1861 census shows Anne Mellor and family living at 55 New Bath Street. 1871 shows them at Ellerslie Villas , Alma Road (number not shown). In 1881 they were at 33 Alma Road.

That's all the information I have.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Peter. I am a little confused insomuch as your original post indicated that Anne and her children lived at 55, Alma Road. If indeed that is correct, the it would seem that they were the first residents of the house. Given James Mellor was convicted of fraud it would be very interesting to know on what basis and with what funds the hous was built. It seems we will never know.
