Hi, Hydes.

You have copied over what Sandra posted 8 years ago.  Have you followed the suggestion offered?

Thankyou after searching forever to find Andrew O'hare (Great Grandfather) death certificate on Scotland's people i have just located it. I didn't realise I needed the ' in O'hare as the other family members I have found i didn't put it into the search.
I'm excited to say I have also located a photo of the grave (he was buried along side his wife)

I was researching my great great uncle
Thomas O'Hear
(B) : 29.8.188
(M) : 17.7.1910
(D) : 29.4.1955
Birth and marriage certificate lists father as John O'hare and mother Mary Hampsley however his death says father was Thomas O'Hear mother Mary Hampsley. Is this just an error or am I missing something??

Probably an error - who registered the death?

It isn't unusual for the informant to be misinformed of details of a death, but mostly the person who registers a birth or who gets married will get it right, so I'd go with John and just make a note that there's an error in the death certificate.

And don't ascribe any significance to spelling variations, especially with Irish surnames, as these are often misheard by registrars.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The witness on  the death certificate was   John O'hare (Son) which seems odd. Surely he knew what his father's name was ??

You would have thought so, but maybe he was confused by the registrar's questions. Or maybe the registrar misunderstood and it was he who got it wrong.
