Looking for Ewart

Looking for Ewart Graham. Probably ex Queens Own Cameron Highlanders where he was known
as " Gyp "
He had an older sister called Bridget .
Last heard of at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh 1928 .
From Lanarkshire possibly Bridgeton .
Does anyone have any information ?

I cannot see a birth for him so far, but there is only one possible Scottish death for someone with that name as first name only and not a middle surname:

Ewart Graham, aged 89 died in 1957 in Torthorwald, Dumfriesshire - ref. 850/4
   
You can view the image of the death reg online on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  Not sure what else you have on him that would help you confirm his details? Could he have had another first name? There is a marriage for example for a William Ewart Graham in 1928 in Torthorwald which I wondered whether this might connect with the death in 1957. Hard to say really without more details...

The 1901 for that Ewart Graham shows birthyear 1868 and birthplace Glenluce, Wigtonshire.  However - "he" is shown as female and the wife of John Graham

SP shows it as a female entry

John Graham married Ewart Erskine 1900 Dumfries.  There is a 2yr old William E Erskine b Liverpool shown as son on the 1901 entry

I don't think this is the man .
Suspect Ewart was a second name. He was from a village near Glasgow with
" Bridge " in the name . ?? Bridgeton .
Born about 1900 and probably in the Second Batallion Cameron Highlanders

The only Bridget I can see that might fit was born 1888 in Coatbridge , possibly the" Bridge " the you mentioned.

I also think it is likely that Ewart may have been a family surname, but he may not have been registered at birth with it.

Bridgeton is an area in Glasgow. The 'village' with the word 'bridge' reference might be Coatbridge as Skippy mentions.

Looking at 1901, there is this family with everyone born in Coatbridge except for mother:

Joseph Graham 42 Ironworker - Forehand Nuddler (?)
Mary Ann Graham 38 b. Ireland
Elizabeth Graham 16
Bridget Graham 10
John Graham 5
Edward Graham 3
Joseph Graham 10 Months

Address: 101 Hutton St, Coatbridge, Old Monkland

Hard to say isn't it  From the lack of detail, I am guessing it might have something to do with a baby?

Yes, I have wondered about this family before . Could the Edward be Ewart ?
There was , ahem , a baby issue . I'm the granddaughter.
Bridgeton might have been more of a village in those days ?
Bridget worked in a cotton mill .
I've found a Hugh Graham and Minnie Ewart on Scotlands people but can't see their children .
Going to write to the Regimental Museum .

I am guessing that some of your info is from family "snippets".   How certain are you re his sisters name and where he was from?

Was your grandmother born in 1928 and is he named on her birth cert?  Was he shown as a serviceman?

Can you please tell us everything you know?  What info is documented fact and what is family "snippets"
