POW reports
« on: Friday 28 July 17 06:27 BST (UK) »
I am currently researching my wife's great grandfather Charles William Blackamore who was a POW in WW1 . He was captured 26 October 1917 at Gheluvelt he was in 9th Batt Devonshire regiment. He was repatriated in May 1918 via his home town of Boston but as he was recruited in Bilston it was not reported in the local paper Sadly his service record is lost but he did give information about his imprisonment but his report was one that was not printed (WO 161/100/337/1150 )
. Is this information he gave still in existence? If so how can it be obtained? I did download the entry from Kew but it was just the index also on FindMyPast .
Also he was according to his Medal card originally in South Staffordshires then transferred to Devon's was the South Staffs a training regiment supplying replacements?

Have you got his information from the Red Cross POW files?

https://grandeguerre.icrc.org/en/File/Search

It is fiddly, but worthwhile persevering.

My cousin was a POW and unfortunately I have not found him in the records.  I did however find an interview with him in the 1930's about his capture, time in prison and final release.  It was pure gold to me.  It was for an Armistace Day.

I use this researcher for any file at the National Archive at Kew https://www.arcre.com/

Lee has sorted out loads of WW1 & WW2 stuff for me in the past as I can't visit the archives myself.

I'd ask him to order up that WO file you quoted in your first post.  It's so disappointing when the WW1 service file is missing due to the fire that destroyed almost two thirds of them.

Best of luck with your research.

You can download the report from the National Archives website for £3.50.

Or is this just an index?

2/S.Staffs was a front line Regiment.
The diaries may mention a transfer but it's a bit of a trawl.

Unfortunately that's just an index and also available on FindMyPast
I'll give the diaries a go as a long shot . He did give one of his sons the middle name Beaumont who was born Jan 1917 I'm guessing that its also a reference to where he was at that date
