Hi, just read your post about the Muspratt family in Wiltshire. My partner is a Muspratt and although I have not done a lot of research I have got back to an Arthur Muspratt born in 1874. Uncertain where he was born, two possible places Boscombe in Wilts or Norwood in Surrey (on census records). But he married in Idmiston, Wilts, Rose Smith. I have the family from there on to present day.

Arthur Muspratt born in 1874

Hi
You can look up his birth on the Free BMD index or the General Register Office birth index to find which registration district his birth appears in.  That should lead you to Wiltshire or Surrey.

Couple of possible births

Arthur Dec 1875 Strand
Arthur John Mar 1876 Lambeth

1891 there is an Arthur 14 born St Martins in the Fields
Mother Eliza has birthplace Warminster Wilts

Yours is A J or Arthur J on a couple of census
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

The Strand one has MMN Pearce which I believe Eliza from Warminster was.

Arthur John birth doesn't have a MMN listed.

Thanks both. I have been using census records mainly, hence not knowing for sure which place he was born or knowing who his parents were.
1901 and 1911 has him born Boscombe, Wilts. Age 26/36
1921 says he was born Norwood, Surrey. Age 45
Then on his marriage there is no father named, just says deceased.
He is a Carter on all.

Thank you all for your kind responses this has helped me a lot. Just to let you know that Euclid Eular Eugene Muspratt died in Chester at the Alms Houses at the Blue Coat School 1934.  I have his obituary and according to it his father Edward Muspratt built Eaton Hall, where the late Duke lived, don't know if that's true but who knows.

Once again thank you
Regards
Heather :)

As you say, can you believe everything you read in the newspapers?
Chester Chronicle, 2 Mar 1940

Note - the status of your post doesn't allow attachments but the obit mentions "his father who was then managing foreman at the building of Eaton Hall"
