Yes they did, good point.

Mike - you appear content in our direct correspondence with the information from the discharge papers but if you wish to find out whether further records exist then apply to the Regimental Archivist at RHQ Irish Guards, info here http://www.theguardsmuseum.com/Family-Research (last I heard the charge was £33).

PS Call him an Irish Guardsman rather than Irish Guard!
I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

Thank you everyone for your help especially Max for going to so much trouble for me.

The vital piece of information I require and I am still missing is his mothers name so I can apply for his birth certificate.  With this information the registry office can be sure they are providing me with the correct certificate for Thomas Burke.  I'm aware his fathers name is Patrick Burke but have no further details other than he was deceased at the time of Thomas getting married in 1918.

I was hoping the information in his discharge papers may have provided names of parents but unfortunately not.

Any further advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

On the previous thread you have Thomas born 1885 but Jim1 posts 1883.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=773959.

Is that definitely him in Carhoon?

Heywood

Hi Heywood,
Jim1 is correct the date on his discharge papers is indeed 1883.  I can confirm this is without a doubt the correct papers for my grandfather.
On findmypast I unlocked the household register for his address in Forest Town, Nottinghamshire and his date of Birth is stated as 6th August 1885.  This is also without a doubt my grandfather.
I'm now searching for my link with him and carhoon, a Thomas Burke is on the 1901 Census but now you have asked I'm not sure how I linked him to the address other than his age!  Thankyou for asking the question I will look into this.
Thanks,
Mike
