IRA archives

I've come across some (old) IRA archives online, including the Military Service Pension Collection.  This includes the names of family members, and I wonder if the enlistment records have survived, and if they are searchable either online or in the archives.  Many thanks.

I don't think as an illegal Army they had enlistment records as such, they did swear an oath I have a copy of it I'll post it later.

old IRA got a pension from the new free state government after 1922.
 try department of defence as many of them joined the free state army.

I believe the online pension record has any family information removed but you can apply for the full record as long as you can prove the family connection. I got my grandfather's (not online yet) which had his parents, his marriage, and his children. I applied in 2015 got it about a year and a month later, not sure if the waiting time is still that long.

             as a matter of interest do you think your grandfathers record will eventually appear online ,the reason i ask is i did a family tree for a friend who's father got the Black and Tan medal/s ? and i was wondering why his record is not online yet.
He appears on the 1911 Dublin census and 1922 Irish Army census in Cork.
He was a bit of a nightmare to track as his mother registered him in one name the name of her father he appears on the census in the name of his father's father,she also named two sons as Thomas the second son while the first one was still alive.
My friend eventually got his baptism in the Meath St area in the name he appeared on the census with the same date that his mother registered him in her fathers name.

I believe they will all be put online eventually, I think they were starting with 1916 veterans and working out from there.
My grandfather didn't join until 1917 and he was in Westmeath, I did a check for him and he's still not there. He also couldn't apply until the second round because he was anti-treaty so didn't join the National Army.
At the time I applied they suggested I wait for it to come online, thank goodness I didn't, not only would I be still waiting but they sent loads, from his letter asking for the application form to my father informing them of my Grandmother's death in the 1980s and a sheet explaining the medals.

The men have to have applied for a pension, if they didn't that they aren't ever going to be in that set of records.

                       not sure if he applied for a pension and he never appears in the witness statements though my friend does have the records which he got about 5yrs ago,he is donating the medal's to the museum.
