The death that Ladyhawk found is not your Patrick McIver.
This one died on 9th March 1911 and the census was taken on 2nd April 1911.

I've downloaded the image for the 1911 census so if Flowerdoll would like to contact me via pm I will arrange to send her the image.

Edit: I've found his death in 1920, recorded as McIvor instead of McIver.

Well found Girl Guide  :)

I haven't had a reply yet.  I think she must be based outside the UK as she said that she had spent $3000 on her trip to the UK.

But I'm sure she will be delighted.

Oh, yes I am delighted!! thank you. Patrick's death certificate also answered another question, was his first wife Margaret still alive and she is listed as the widow so she was still out there somewhere:-) but brings up the big question of why her kids, my great grandmother Lizzie and her brother Hugh ended up in the poor house and were brought to Canada by Emma Sterling. What happened to Patrick and Margaret's marriage? He was in a boarding house in between Margaret and Mary  his live-in housekeeper/mother of 3 more children:-)

I have another mystery with this McIver family:-) and once I get my facts all down in a better timeline I will be asking for some more help. Fresh eyes always help:-)

Edit: I see that Patrick is listed as widower of Margaret so she died before him.  Must be why the 2 children were in the home.

I live in Canada and my trip to the UK was my trip of a lifetime. I was so sad that after 5 days in London and arriving in Edinburgh on day 6 my knee went and I ended up going to the emergency and spent 2 1/2 days in the apartment. I could not do any castles, missed out on 2 booked tours.  I had streets and churches that I wanted to see related to my ancestors. We went on to Ireland for 4 days with me limping along.  Maybe one day after knee replacement:-) I can return to Edinburgh and do it they way I planned.

Thanks to all of you who have helped me with this and other times I have posted looking for help.

This genealogy is so much fun when you are not pulling your hair out over so many wrong turns LOL
