Help with 1911 census
« on: Monday 05 June 17 16:28 BST (UK) »
While on a trip to Edinburgh I went to the Scotspeople registry to do some searching. I had 3 main searches to do and was helped by one of the gentlemen working there. I wanted to find the death of my 2nd great grandfather Partick McIver born 1848 in Cannongate and lived most of his life in Edinburgh. The last census I had of him was 1901 with him living in the registry district of Newington at 71 Hill Place, Midlothian. My helper took that infor and came back to me telling me he found his death certificate. He had me save that page to my list of other things I was going to print off when I left. I got home to find that the only thing I had from his help was the cover of the Enumeration Book . The printing is very faded. The name of the institution is Home Of The Little Sisters Of The Poor. County of Edinburgh, Registration District of Morningside.

Can anyone help me to find his name in this book or any information about his death?

I was at the Scotspeople registry in person and looked for his death. That was where I came across the information that he died in Morningside in 1911. After spending $3,000.00 on my trip to the UK I think I will wait to pay get the copy of his death certificate:-) I might find it on another site that is free to use.

Thank you for your reply!

Sorry Flowerdoll you will not get a copy of his full death certificate on any free site. You may get an index but not all the details as to his parentage, wife, who registered his death etc.

The only place to obtain this is the Scotlandspeople website as advised by avm228.

It is inexpensive to use.

The death that Ladyhawk found is not your Patrick McIver.  This one died on 9th March 1911 and the census was taken on 2nd April 1911.

I've downloaded the image for the 1911 census so if Flowerdoll would like to contact me via pm I will arrange to send her the image.

Edit: I've found his death in 1920, recorded as McIvor instead of McIver.  I have also downloaded this to my computer.

As I remarked further up the page, please get in touch Flowerdoll if you would like the images.

Ladyhawk, that is my Patrick in the  census you have listed. He was born in 1848. His daughter Susan died in 1900 at 11 months old. not sure on Thomas.

Girl Guide, I will contact you.

I have tried to post the page that I printed off while at the registry. I will try again. My harddrive died on my computer so I am trying to get used to the programs again:-( this is one time change is not good:-)
