Cambuslang Mort Cloth Records & Robert Craigie
« on: Monday 08 May 17 15:13 BST (UK) »
I'm tracing the family of Robert Craigie & Jean Brown and their son Robert Craigie who married Janet Donaldson in 1811 in the Cambuslang parish.  It also looks like the family was listed in the 1807 parish census.

Another tree has Jean Brown Craigie dying in March 1802 and Robert Craigie dying in March 1820 but the information is unsourced.  The 1807 parish census seems to indicate that Robert Craigie was married to Kath McLean, which makes me think he remarried after his wife died.

Does anyone have access to the Cambuslang Mort Cloth records to confirm the death dates.  Also looking for any other Craigie deaths during that period as I suspect several children died young.

Thanks!

Debbie

There are burial records for Cambuslang parish, beginning at 1784, they go up into the 1820s at least. These records were required to be kept by all parishes, as per the 1784 Mortality bill, few have survived but Cambuslang burials definitely do exist.  Mortcloths can be a bit ambiguous but the burial records have more detail.
There may well be a Rootschat member who has a copy of the Lanarkshire FHS publication of the Cambuslang Death Records.

There is only one person named Craigie in  the entire Cambuslang Mortcloth.

John Craigie
Entered onto Mortcloth 24 Dec 1825
Son of Robert Craigie
One Shilling and Six Pence

The 1807 census does not provide ages or relationships although women were entered under their maiden names.
A single property in West Cotes consists of:

Robert Craigie, Kath McLean, John, Jane
Robert Ranken, J Ranken
Robert Craigie
W Neilson, John Wilson, John Shaw,
Henrietta Currie, Margt Hamilton
Janet Donaldson

Thank you for looking at the records for me.  I appreciate it!

Does anyone know if there are death records for the parish too?  I asked about Mort Cloth records as that's what the Mormon Wiki indicated were the available death records.
