It’s interesting to find that her birth wasn’t registered until 1978 on NZ BMD..
as Noreen Catherine BLACK...

Hello.

Two points of interest for me. when I saw that was:-

#1 Was the unique event that prompted the birth registration, trying to apply for a pension, making her older than assumed in post one, but proved wrong when the birth date on the registration was found.

#2 Did a serviceman by name of BLACK, with Waikato origins, die on active service in the later part of 1916.

Unfortunately Cenotaph has too many BLACK listings to search through for my available time. Papers Past casualty lists did not provide me with a quick answer, and I was unsuccessful in finding an on line site with the NZ Expeditionary Force published rolls, which one could scroll through the alphabetical listings, looking at enlistment and NOK addresses.
