St Thomas Heptonstall Graves

Help needed to find the grave of John Crossley buried 11 Sept 1855.
Also if his parents Samuel buried 17 June 1833 & Susannah Buried 22 May 1817.

There's a good list of Crossleys buried there and nearby places, on "Ancestry". Would Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion be of any help? It's amazing what's in there. Would Hebden Bridge library be able to help with a location map, perhaps?

I had a quick scan through but didn't see your Crossleys.

If you are able to visit, IMHO you will most likely find them behind the old church - from the age, and because of the relative lack of coverage of the above transcriptions in those areas. Best time to visit is probably between now and May where there is minimal vegetation covering them. It's a big graveyard and you can't access everything, so you may spend a few hours and not find anything!

You could also see if any of the relatives of your Crossleys are in those transcriptions, and look nearby.

I'm sure if you explain that you live in New Zealand, they will be more sympathetic to your request.  Very often the Church Wardens have knowledge of the graveyard layout.

I think there's something in "A******y" that covers a lot of the burials in old St Thomas' graveyard in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire BMD comes to mind? And shows you images not just transcriptions? I'll have a look....
Is that the Samuel Crossley who married Susannah Webster there, on 25th December 1788?

Just looked up the images of the actual entries in the registers for the people concerned - doesn't give any clue to the location of the graves, there, but:
pp65 ( buried 17th June 1833)
Samuel Crossley of Cob Coate Wadsworth aged 63

P77 (buried 22nd May 1817)
Susannah, wife of Samuel Crossley of Hobcote, Wadsworth aged 53
(And I suspect the above entry should read "Hobcote", too)

p14 (buried 11th September1855)
John Crossley of Cliffe Warley aged 66
(there are some tiny digits I can't quite decipher at the bottom of the "box" the Name is in, that may be a reference to a grave-site, but....? Sorry)
