So the question is could a man shave 8 years off his age & get away with it.
Looking at a picture of the 2nd. Tyneside Scottish (21/NF) they are not all spring chickens with some looking well into their 30's.
However his shoulder title is not of that Batt.
You could look at local papers for the time as men often got mentioned.
