Your replies are most welcome and I really appreciate the trouble you have taken to reply.
I had not realised that whole families were recruited to go places where work was more available? I suppose it makes sense though, as wasn't there an uprising by the Agricultural workers over drastically lowering their pay? (Tolpuddle Martyrs?) Elisha was an agricultural worker until he came north).
I have Elisha marrying in 1876 in Lancaster Registry office but the census for 1881 and 1891 he is in Oswaldtwistle working as a potters labourer. I cannot find much about his new wife, MaryEllen or Ellen and her daughter RoseAnn who I believe both were born in Ireland?
Amelia married in Brookhouse, at Caton St Paul's church to a William Purchase, they seemed a local family to Brookhouse, but I also saw Purchase's in Irwerne Minster too, so the families may have known each other previously in Dorset?
Cheers Rosie
ETA: Now if these census' were every 5 years instead of every 10 years, then I and a whole lot of others would know more about our ancestor's movements!
