The Baptisms I posted are not yours then if William was Bapt 1840.
I am having trouble finding them 1841/1851 Census.

First child of William and Ann registered in Knaresborough (Margaret) and this appears to be where the couple married too:

William Allan
Ann Watson

June quarter 1861 Knaresborough - Vol. 9a, Page 129 (2 of the 4 people sharing that page reference)

To confirm (copy of marriage certificate on FindMyPast):

William Allan 20, son of Peter,  and Ann Watson 18, dau. of James (residence for both shown as Darley) married 22/4/1861 Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire.

I see from the Baptism of Wiliam on FreeREG his Father Peter is a Tinman.

Have a look at this 1851 Census in Lancashire;
Lodgers;
Peter Allen, 48 (1803), Tin Plate Worker (journeyman) born Cumberland
William Allen, 12, born Cumberland
Further down page Anne Allen age 15, pob not known   

I'm finding it really had to find William/1841/1851/1861.

Thank you Annette and Trish.  Been out all day and just come in and have seen your posts.  I have William now in all except the 1841 which I will try, however you have both given me a wealth of information  to continue with.  Will add it all to my Tree now.  Thanks again.
