Hart's Private Hotel - South Island, New Zealand

Hi,

This is a wild shot. I have recently discovered that my grandparents, Arnold Hart (1884-1971) & Margaret Hart (1885-1947) might possibly have owned a Private Hotel during the early 1920's, but no-one in the family today, knows where it was.

Could it have been in Christchurch, Canterbury where they came from, or was it in Milton, Otago where the Hart family lived during the late 1920's.

Is there somewhere that lists all the Private Hotels in Christchurch, or Otago?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Photo attached. Thank you.

There was a "Hart's Private Hotel" in Aldinga, Adelaide, Australia in the late 1890s. Could they have been visiting there, and been photographed outside?

No, they never left New Zealand. Both the grandparents were born in 1880's and gt grandfather Hart was an architect. I know it is a long shot, but maybe someone, somewhere just might know! Thanks anyway for your reply.

The WW1 Reservists list compiled in 1917 mentions a Henry FITZSIMMONS (labourer) who gave his address as...

C/- Harts Hotel Waverley Kumara

No punctuation so most annoying.

I know Kumara is down on the West Coast of the South Island. Not sure if there is a Waverley down there too.

Thank you. I have just this week (minniehaha) purchased "Pubs Galore" off Trade Me! Another rellie features in there as a licensee of a pub. But Hart's was a Private Hotel. So will pursue further. Fingers crossed. Regards to all.
