The matching birth shows the father as Matthew, a salter LINK

The couple have a Mary Bridget in 1874 - this time the birth record shows Walter LINK

Oh by the way Thomas’s birth was either 16 or 17th July as the birth & bapt differ.

Mary Ellen's parents were Walter & Bridget
I’ve seen a Walter Whelan & Bridget Mollowney they married 18 November 1855 at St Andrews but not sure if it's right. They would have been married around 16 years before Mary Ellen was born.

I can only find one Child for them Mary b.1859 Poolbeg St.

I can't find Mary Ellen's birth the census info says she was born in Dublin between 1871 – 1873 I’ve widened the search & looked thought church & civil records for Mary's, Ellen's & unknown Whelan’s, I do get lost on the civil records at irishgenealogy.ie and miss some I really find it hard to keep track.

Walter was deceased by 1893 & Bridget was at Clarendon St I’ve look at burial's & civil deaths for both of them non fit, he was a sailor so might have died while away from home, there's a Bridget I’ve not checked that died 1895 but the image was wrong so knowing my luck that's her!

I didn't know that Gualterus was Latin for Walter.

Found them on census and yes she does say born Dublin City on both

I also believe it is "Carmel."

In a Catholic church one would expect any middle name to be derived from a saint and not be a family name.  Carmel is a bit odd because it is a location and one associated with a female saint, but, nevertheless, I think it is "CarmeL"

The Carmelite Order has old and widespread ties to Ireland.  No other short Catholic saint's name seems to begin "Ca" and end in "l."  Also, it wasn't just nuns, but men in the order as well.  Not to mention, "Carmel" was really the key word, with members of the order signing missives "Yours in Carmel."
