Irish name question

I have an ancestor whose middle name was Cankel or Cankil.

Thomas O'connor b.16th - bapt 24th July 1893

Some of my Scottish ancestors have used family surnames as a middle name for their children.

I can’t find the name via the internet I was wondering was it an old Irish name or word someone might have come across before?

Winship/Simpson/Addison from Durham.
Wade from Lancashire & Durham.
Johnson/Johnstone from Bellingham Northumberland & Durham.
Beattie from Angus & Durham.
Dicky/Low From Kincardineshire Scotland.
Smyth/Doyle/O'Connor/Connolly from Dublin.

Looks more like Cantil to me which is an Irish surname.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I presume you are referring to the address 23 Wicklow St....

Yes thats correct Francis o'connor father of Thomas of Wicklow St.
