Grandfather in ARP
« on: Sunday 26 March 17 12:19 BST (UK) »
My Grandfather (Eric Hutchcroft) was in the ARP in Scarborough - he died on Christnas day 1940 - of a heart attack - no idea if he was on-patrol at the time
Nobody (including his Children) know where he is buried
Are records held of this ?
Where ?

If he was a teacher and formerly from Hull, then his death is mentioned in the 28th December edition of the Yorkshire Post and also in the Hull Daily Mail.

The funeral took place in Filey and the service was at St Oswald's Parish church. Perhaps he was buried in their churchyard.

He died in Filey which is where he was living at the time.  Previously he lived in Hessle.  He had moved to Filey to teach Hull evacuee children who were staying there

Have you looked at the 1939 register to see where he was living and with whom.  :-\

Address at time of death was 16 Cromwell Avenue, Filey. His widow, parents and parents-in-law were noted as mourners.

He looks to have been living in a hotel in 1939.

Thanks - yes he was a teacher - I have a copy of the newspaper article and am mainly looking for his burial details - which graveyard etc ?
As far as I am aware - he was living at home (Filey/Scarborough) at the time of his death - so "hotel" confuses me !
Is anyone able to confirm that he was buried at St Oswalds ?
(I live approx 300 miles south of Filey)
thanks

It is always possible that the whole family plus other teachers and the evacuated children could be in a hotel  :-\   You would need to see the 1939 register for details of who was living there
