Hi Sigplat. Welcome to Rootschat. You really haven't provided much information here. Potter is a very common name. Can you please be more specific as to these people. There are 25 Potters in the parish of Kentisbeare and thats without looking further afield. I just don't know by this if you expect these people to be all part of one family. I just presume you do. I can see only one Samuel but not with other names you mention. Can you please be more specific and I will see what I can find. I cannot see these people as one household but there are people with these names at other places in the parish, not living together. Please supply family groups, ages etc. I will wait till I here from you before I try again

Hello Kris
Thank you so much for your help. Actually Samuel, Henry and Elizabeth Potter and Mary Coombe are all siblings, with Jane being a stepMom. Jane and Elizabeth could be living together.
If there are no other Samuels in Kentisbeare and presuming that he stayed in the area after his father William died in 1839, Samuel is my line.

Sorry Sandra. You still have not provided much information here. The more information you provide the more likelihood of a positive result for you. The information contained in the 1841 census is very limited so it is important to provide all you know on these people. I can see no Jane old enough, The only Elizabeth is 15 working on a farm, No Henry likely either. The parish is also full of Coombe's.  Perhaps this is Mary, she is the only adult Mary I can see. If this is not her she does not appear to be in Kentisbeare.

Sorry about the lack of information. I am going for a long shot here .
My line has a Samuel POTTER (married to Mary TAYLOR in 1830) born in Kentisbeare circa 1803. When I found a will online from a William POTTER who died in 1839 in Kentisbeare, I ordered it to see if there was any Samuels. I do know that there are several other POTTERS in Kentisbeare that have not yet been connected to my line.

Kentisbeare Parish Records lists a William POTTER s/o Justinian and Elizabeth POTTER christened March 16th 1777, in addition to a siblings Mary, Henry, Thomas, Hannah, Sarah and John (1780, 1783, 1787, 1791, 1795, 1798 respectively)

In the will, I found was that William died in 1839, leaving his "present" wife Jane and his Daughter Elizabeth as executrisses (sp). He left his clothes to his son Samuel and arrangments for the continued renting of a house. He left 1 pound to his daughter Mary COOMBE. He also left stipulations that his son Henry and James LUXTON to be out of the house within 21 days.... (My thought is that Jane LUXTON was his second wife and James was her son but pure speculation!) So I wondered if Jane POTTER and Elizabeth still living in Kentisbeare in 1841.  They may be in Topsham??
I am still trying to sort out if there is any other Samuel POTTERS in the area ( I believe that the listing that you generously obtained for me was their family in 1841) So I don't really know dates for Henry or Elizabeth. I also appreciate the Mary COOMBE listing as I think that she is ours too as they all lived around Ponchidown (sp) and she showed up on the 1851 widowed with a young son Thomas.
Please forgive my rambling. I hope this helps.
Sandra

Fascinating story Sandra but alas no help in locating them I am afraid. William had his say in the end ehh. Guess he didn't think a lot of son Henry or James Luxton. Jane and Elizabeth do not appear in Kentisbeare or Topsham I'm afraid. The only Jane Potter in Kentisbeare is only 15. I even tried James Luxton and he does not appear either. Hoped if he was Janes son perhaps there may be some Potters with him. Won't hold my breath but If this Will has an address I will see if any Potters appear there. I'm afraid there really isn't any show of locating these people if they do not appear where we think they should be in 1841, and without knowing ages I am sorry but I don't think there is much else I can try......Elizabeth may have married in the 2 years as may have Jane (Or died) Sorry Sandra I just cannot think of anything else to try here......Kris  :'(

Thanks for all your help anyway... I realized that it was a long shot! William and Jane apparently lived at Ponchidown (Farm) when he wrote the will, Little Hill or Little Hall when he died but then when the will was probated, Jane at least was living in Topsham. She was the only one to sign off on it... No sign of Elizabeth.
I haven't found exactly where Ponchidown (Farm) or Little Hall/Hill are in but am assuming that they are within Kentisbeare Parish.
