Barry, do not worry, you can still get a copy at any Chilean consulate, indicating the numbers I have provided (RC Antofagasta, Matrimonios, 1927, 497).

I will be contacting you later re. Islington! I still need to confirm it is my great-greatgrandfather who lived there!

 :)  I've been a busy bunny since my last post !! Holidays in Italy, Canada and Chile but no possibility of doing enquiries. I twice met the living person mentioned in our exchanges but any local enquiries are not worth the grief they might cause to younger members of the family. However, if there's anything Tito could supply, please PM me.

Hi Tito, the living person to whom I referred in my first post on the subject has told us that her granndparents were both English and came out, quite separately, to Peru where they met and married. Part of what is now Chile might at that time have been Peru or even Bolivia, which may add further problems to any investigation. Barry

Eduardo Varas Varas

I am looking for any information on Eduardo Varas Varas, born Copiapo, possibly around 1903. He was killed in a motor accident in 1927, probably in Antofagasta, just 2 months after the birth of his daughter Hilda. In his Identity Card he is described as chauffeur. Can anybody please help us with Eduardo's antecedents ?

are you sure of the second surname? I have Varas in my father-father-mother line from Copiapó. By the way, I´m from Chile.

"Natural children" (born to single mothers) often repeated their surname to make it look as if they were legitimate children. Legally, they only had their mother surname. Legitimate children had their father surname first, then their mother's.
