Thanks John I got nowhere with Uriah so thought maybe he was just a witness rather than a relative.

The 1841 is a mess of names/ages but Sarah is down as being 48 to his 45.
In 1851 she is 55 born Kirkburton.
By 1861 she has remarried (59 when she married in 1854) and is 67 born Cumberworth and living Upper Cumberworth.

Frustratingly no fathers name when she remarried  :(

But back to James, is Clayton West a small area?

I have in my tree a distant cousin Sarah Wood b Cumberworth 1793 to Joseph Wood and Sarah (Calverley).  Ancestry hints (FWIW) that she was the Sarah Wood who married an Ebenezer Booth - that marriage took place at Clayton West with High Hoyland, 22 Feb 1814.

Probably not helpful but may have some use for elimination purposes.

Are you on AncestryDNA, Milliepede?  I have lots of lines going back to Clayton West, High Hoyland, Cumberworth, Skelmanthorpe, Kirkburton - it would be interesting to see whether we were related.

Always handy to rule one out thanks.

No I haven't done DNA but would love to find someone descended from the same family.

James' son Thomas is my link.  He left Yorkshire before he married and lived elsewhere for the rest of his life so it's been difficult tracing his roots.

I found an Uriah Hinchcliffe in Penistone area when I was chasing round after James' birth / baptism, hoping to narrow it down for you the other day. Can't recall the context exactly, but I certainly found it via "Ancestry".
I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping that you do manage that breakthrough - and if / when you do, please let us know.

That's nice thank you appreciate the support  :)

I can see a Uriah on Land Tax Records 1798 & 1818 Cumberworth Half.  Not found those records before.
